In honor of the Chicken Man, Pringles hung out with the chickens today.

Well Pringles hangs out with chickens every day but today I took pictures!

Some might say this chicken is tall! Not quite as tall as Pringles but wow, he is up there!

I am trying to be tall like Pringles

A tale of two ponds

Pringles here, I have some exciting news for everyone!

The rescue where I live is building a brand new place and making me an awesome new pond! The humans are super busy so I thought I would start out by showing you my current digs and chronicling the building of my new pad.

For now I am calling it the Pringles Palace because a man has to be the king of his own castle but I will obviously share my home with lots of other worthy birds. This is some pictures of the new place before we really started work on it.

There are lots of creeks on the property so we will have lots of mucking opportunities

I can’t wait to sample all of the grass!

As you can see there is a lot of work to do! My mom has to build me a house and a pond. Mom says they need some green stuff to finish the work and Pringles tried to bring her some tasty grass. She said I have the best friends a goose could have and knows you want to help us get my pond and house built so we can start helping lots of other ducks and geese who need it.

Pringles will keep you posted about the fundraisers to help us reach our goal. Right now we are doing a jewelry auction. Pringles go to peruse the jewelry while it was here and I thought I would point out some of the tastier looking pieces.

My friend Amanda Rudolph sent this as a donation for me. She has a goose named Sebastian and she knows the value of geese as awesome pets. This was very shiny and tasty looking so I know you’ll enjoy wearing it.

Of course who can turn down a necklace made of fruit?
My mom said these were especially nice, they are vintage and really cool, but she doesn’t really wear pink much. They are just ok for me.

These were really nice. Pringles has never been to Russia but he is smart and can use the internet. These are painted in a style called Zhostovo. Zhostovo (pronouced jhos-tovo) originated in a village of the same name located in the Mytishchi District of the Moscow Region. It is one of the most respected centers of Russian folk art and is noted for it’s lacquered trays on which clear, bright bouquets of flowers literally dance on a shining black background. This handmade and painted Zhostovo pin and earring set was quite yummy looking flowers.

Of course anything with birds on it makes Pringles happy so here are a few of those.

So my mom got a new camera and…… well I am never one to seek out the spotlight.  She kept after me all day!  Here is the whole story……..

Notice me, Pringles, in hiding, minding my own business. Not bothering anyone.

Mom sneaks around the bush to try and bother me with her camera. I raise my head so she knows who the boss is!

Well the stare down contest didnt deter her so I take my ladies and we move elsewhere

but mom persists, so i raise my head and give her a warning honk! HONK HONK! Stay away from my ladies.

I can see why mom wants pictures of Annabelle, she is hubba hubba.

Christmas for Stevie

Pringles has been worried about Stevie since mom said he wasnt feeling well.  Pringles knows Stevies life has been hard enough already.  Pringles asked what can a tall goose do to help?

Mom said there was nothing I could do but Pringles overheard her talking about trying to make Stevies pen better.  This gave Pringles a good idea!  For Christmas lets give Stevie a new pen, well…. actually, we just need to fix up his old one a little.  Mom said the moisture was a problem and she wants a concrete floor underneath so she can keep it dry and clean.  Pringles is a smart goose so I figured out how many bags we would need and went to Lowes website and browsed for prices.  WOWO its a bit more expensive than Pringles thought.

Pringles is amazing but has no place to keep a wallet in his feathers.  Pringles will have to raise the money to help buy Stevies upgrades.  Pringles has the best friends in the world so I know that you will want to help Stevie too!

Pringles created a chip page for Stevies Christmas gift.  This will cover buying the 75 bags of concrete and a few things we will need to put it in.  Pringles will track the donations and will post in his blog about the upgrades to Stevies pen.  Stevie lives with Ray another blind goose who was blinded when some kids threw a rock at his head when he was a baby.  Ray is a sweetheart and so he will also benefit from the upgrades.

Pringles is so excited!  I sure hope we can get Stevies gift ready before Christmas!

“T” is for Turkey

Pringles hears all the turkey talk and decided to dedicate his next blog post to his good buddy Mr “T”.  People often ask what does the “T” stand for and it stands for Turkey of course!

Mr “T” is pretty popular with the ladies but he is no tall goose!  Instead of talking about who has more friends mom thinks I should give you some facts about turkeys. So here they go!

Turkeys change the color of their face when they are excited or when Mr T is trying to get your attention.

Mr “T”  is a Tom Turkey which means he is a male. Adult male turkeys are called toms and females are called hens. Very young birds are poults, while juvenile males are jakes and juvenile females are jennies. A group of turkeys is called a flock.

Mr "T" has over 5000 really colorful feathers and his gobble can be heard up a mile away!

Mr “T” is considered a Bronze Heritage Turkey.  These are a type of turkey that was domesticated to more resemble wild turkeys because factory farmed turkeys no longer carry any of the traits that makes turkeys so cool!

Turkeys see in color and have excellent daytime vision that is three times better than a human’s eyesight and covers 270 degrees, but they dont see as well at night.

Anyone who says turkeys are not sensitive, caring or form strong bonds with people have not met Mr “T” as he is definitely a lover not a fighter.

Wild turkeys have very powerful legs and can run at speeds up to 25 miles per hour. Their top speed in flight is 55 miles per hour. Domestic birds, on the other hand, are bred to be heavier and cannot fly.

Mr. T will turn his tail towards you when he is trying to get your attention.

Turkeys can often be aged by the size of their spurs and the length of their beards.  Mr “T” is 2 years old, we know this because he had a very small beard and the tail feathers indicated he was a juvenile when we got him. We estimated his age and we track his birthdays of course!   He has since molted and now has a full adult fan tail.  The beard is actually a modified feather and its coarse like a horse tail. It can grow three to five inches a year!  Turkeys only live about 10 years, the oldest living turkey was 13.

Turkeys have a variety of interesting parts not found on other birds like the beard.  One of the more interesting however is the snood.  The snood can be drawn up like a unicorn or flattened out and turned into a variety of colors.  The skin flap below his mouth is a dewlap while the bulbs of flesh are considered caruncles.

By 1930 Wild Turkeys had been hunted to near extinction.  A massive population program was implemented and now the wild turkey hunting is regulated and the numbers are again thriving.

I asked Mr T for an interview and he only had one thing to say about Thanksgiving “Eat Tofu!”

Mom “Pringles, can you help me for a second?”

Pringles “Mom I am taking a nap!”

Mom “you nap all day, cmon in here”

Pringles “i guess, if I HAVE to”

Mom “Will you go get Marilyn? She needs a haircut”

Pringles “ok, I will go get her”

Pringles “hey whats up Matthew and Mr Mallard, I am looking for Marilyn, have you seen her?”

Mr Mallard “We are busy Pringles, I am teaching Matthew the ancient art of Duck Balancing (a trick i use to get attention) but try outside.”

Pringles “Hey Michigan, Have you seen Marilyn? ”

Michigan “Sorry Pringles, i am really busy, I am trying to remove this red thing, then i need to clean all my feathers where the human touched me”

Pringles ” thanks buddy, we wont tell mom about THAT first comment”

Pringles “Glad to see your feeling better Lucky, you look pretty cozy floating in the pool.

Lucky “Mom says the pool is good therapy for my leg”

Pringles “Have you seen Marilyn?”

Lucky “No, i haven’t but she sure is a nice looking girl, hubba hubba. I am not up for chasing girls just yet though.”

Pringles “MMMOOOMMM!!  I cant find her, what does she look like again??”

Mom “she is a white bird with nice fluffy hairdo”

Pringles “oh here is a nice white bird”

RBG  “Stay away Pringles, No one is cutting my hair today besides I am gray and a gull!!!”

Pringles “Sorry Mr Gull, didn’t mean to get you upset”

Pringles “oh here is another nice white bird!  and he has some nice feathers.”

GE “I will gladly trade some haircut for one of your tasty eyeballs”

Pringles “Umm, I think I may pass on that Mr Egret, but maybe another day”  (not, he he)

Pringles ” Hey Big Red, you want a haircut? ”

Big Red ” Cock-a-doodle-doo! translation in goose – NO , I only COMB my hair, get it LOL”

Pringles “Very funny you big chicken”

Pringles “Oh Catie has a really pretty nice white duck, she has to be Marilyn”

Duck “sorry Pringles, all my hair is missing courtesy of some drakes”

Pringles “ok sorry about that, you let Pringles know if you need help with that. I can bite them for you.”

Pringles “Hey what do you got there Catie?”   “I have never seen a duck with no head”

Catie “I think she is trying to tell you something Pringles, this is NOT Marilyn and i dont think she wants a haircut!!”

Marilyn “hey Pringles, I heard you were looking for me?”

Pringles “MARILYN!!  I have been all over, where were you hiding”

Marilyn “I was snoozing down behind the food shed, my head keeps falling over though, its so heavy. I dont understand why”

Pringles “Come with me, I think Mom can help”

Mom “Welcome to Salon le Duck Marilyn, what kind of style do you want?

Marilyn “well for starters, this one hair is always in my eye. Then I want one of those french cuts like I saw in paris duck magazine”

Mom “ok well hairs out of eye, hows that for starters?”

Marilyn “yeah i love it so far! keep going!”

Mom “you know Marilyn, we love your hair just the way it is but mom has never quite seen a crest this thick and heavy.”

“I think we should just layer it and thin it a little without changing the style”  “mom cuts her own hair and you can see how much style it has (not)”

 Marilyn “sounds good to me, moms know best”

Snip Snip! Just a little layer here and some thickness off there.  All done!!
Marilyn “oh it feels like i have so much weight off my head now. Thanks Mom!! Your the best”

A goose’s work is never done! Now back to the extrememly important job of napping!

A Day With Pringles!

Hey, Its me Pringles!! Come visit my crib and see what I do all day.

Mom started out the day by digging out the trench. Once a week they clean the trench out but today she decided to dig it wider near the drain.  It makes a nice mucking hole.  I polled 4 out of 4 ducks who liked the new changes. They were unable to comment because their mouths were full.

Mrs Cheeks has realized that when mom has the shovel worms follow.  She cautiously approaches as Mr Cheeks guards her. Mr Cheeks is a good husband, he lets her have first choice of nummy worms. Mr Cheeks got his name when he was born with a congenital defect of his salivary glang.  Mom has to clean out his cheek once a week to make sure no extra treats got trapped inside there.  He had lots of surgeries but nothing fixed it.  Mr Cheeks is pretty happy duck despite his problem.

Some of the ducks overate and had to take a nap afterwards (Pringles never overeats!)

Hello, Mrs Mallard, ooohh sssshhhhh, she is sleeping. She belts out quite a scolding if we disturb her, so please tip-toe on past her.

Marilyn woke up from her nap just enough to say Hi to us. She is a pretty cool duck.

Marilyn ” Hi Pringles!, How are you today?”

Pringles “Just great and by the way your hair looks divine today”

This guy has been dating Emily Duckinson. He snuck down to see some of the girls here. Should Pringles tell her?

Nah i dont want her to get upset, i will chase him back up into the other cage instead. Maybe nip his rear just to teach him a lesson in monogamy!  Pringles never cheats!

Today was the scovys kids first day in the yard. Mom says some of the babies are still small but she wants them to get outside as much as possible.  She locks them back up into the barn with a nice cozy lamp.  I know Mrs Scovy tries hard but she cant stuff all those babies under her tummy!

Everyone was excited about the nummy bugs in the yard today.

The scovy back by the pool seems to think he is a goose. He folows Clarence all over the yard. He is trying to look intimidating to the babies but Pringles knows he is just a baby.

My mom said this muscovy is her favorite, cause its one of the prettiest.

Pringles : Hey Mrs Mallard, you awake from your nap?

Mrs Mallard:  I sure am pringles and its a great day!

Pringles : Yes it is and your sure a nice looking girl, if i was a duck I might have to ask you on a date (shhh dont tell max)

Mrs Mallard: Shucks Pringles your making my blush!

I am great Pringles, and by the way I heard you, but its ok. I get around just fine.

Pringles: Mom says people like babies so i took these of the kids.

Scovy Kids:  Hey some of us are preteens! Whats up calling us all kids!!

Pringles : Hey Mr Canada, its the goose police patrol.  I see you have evidence of a altercation on you.

CG:  Huh?  This is just from my scratching my rear.

Pringles: ok then!  Lets just keep moving, and make a mental note to make him wash his hands before he comes into the barn for dinner tonight.

Max snuck into one of the empty pens.  She wanted to bathe in private.  Lets hope she doesnt see us.

Ooops she saw us……..she is yelling………run away fast!

This guy came in today. Mom says she cant help him really but we can make sure he gets enough to eat.

Ok Everyone! Time for Pringles to work on making my feathers so beautiful! Its a difficult job but i am good at it!   I hope you enjoyed spending the day with me!

The Lucky Story

You might remember Lucky the duck. He came into the rescue after enduring weeks of being chewed on by a dog. Mom didnt tell everyone the whole story but Pringles is going to now : )

Lucky was turned over to a vet for euthanasia. Luckily that vet is Pringles vet so the phone rang!!

Ring Ring! Mom agreed to take Lucky even though they were sure he would never walk again. Lucky had multiple punctures some a week old, some two weeks, some older (you get the point) Lucky also had cracked ribs and spinal trauma.

Mom also found out Lucky had a friend………

Mom called the previous owner and negotiated the surrender of Luckys devoted companion Rosebud (she had to pay someone to drive over an hour to get him)

Rosebud came into to see Lucky for the first time since the injury and the bond was obvious and they were so excited to see each other again. Rosebud seemed to be the lucky duck because he had avoided serious injury at the jaws of the german shepard.

Mom was concerned however because even a specialist looked at lucky and recommended euthanisia, saying he would never walk again. Would this end in heartbreak for the rescuers and for Rosebud?

Every day mom comes into the pen and works with Luckys leg. Day after day, no progress was made, Lucky sits. ( you can see the sadness in his eyes)

Mom tried splinting the leg in a standing position so Lucky could balance on it, but all Lucky did was drag the leg behind him.

We knew it was going to be a long road for Lucky but the prospect of having to put him down was very depressing because the two ducks were so bonded. Besides mom has a fondness for men with shiny green heads (shhhh dont tell dad)

Rosebud always guards Lucky and never leaves his side! Rosebud has now taken to biting mom when she comes in because she is no longer fended off by Rosebuds intimidating stares.

You have to wonder how many times Rosebud stood in the way of the dog when it came to chew Lucky.

A couple of days ago mom noticed Lucky was trying to get up.

Rosebud looks on in great concern.

Lucky struggles but says” I know I can walk I must get up!” but Lucky tries and fails again

Everyone was sad.

“Todays the day!” says Lucky, “when mom comes in to give me medicine I will show her I dont need it!”

Max could see Lucky had a sly grin on his face.

Rosebud says “Are you sure Lucky, I am so worried, I dont want you to hurt yourself”

Rosebud ” I hear mom coming!”

Lucky ” I think I can, I think I can, I know I can!!!”

Rosebud “oh my gosh Lucky your standing up!! ” What a miracle day!

Mom runs to the phone and tells the vet that Lucky has stood up and even she cant believe it!Mom was so happy today.

Lucky was walking and took several steps and his foot lays flat ! Mom says she cant wait for them to get into the duck yard so they can eat nummy veggies and swim and play.

Lucky now has a shot at a full recovery and him and Rosebud will get to live happily ever after!

Welcome to the blog of Pringles Goose. That is me. I am a toulouse goose and I live at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue. People say I am handsome and that I have a very fluffy butt. Who am I to argue?

I love tomatoes very much. I like to climb gravel piles and make sure all the people at the rescue stay out of trouble. (Sometimes you have to bite them to keep them in line.)
